CASST Cast Plan to Release Advocacy-Enriched Social Studies Curriculum

The Catholic Association of Social Science Teachers (CASST), in partnership with the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP), has laid out plans to develop and release a revitalized Social Studies curriculum enriched with Catholic Social Teaching and advocacy priorities. The initiative was firmed up during a meeting on August 19, 2025, at the CEAP National Office.

The new curriculum will integrate key themes such as human dignity, the culture of life, democratic values, and the fight against historical distortion and misinformation. It also seeks to provide sustained training and support for Araling Panlipunan teachers—including fresh graduates—to strengthen their capacity to deliver Social Studies rooted in Catholic values and responsive to pressing social issues.

CEAP Executive Director Narcy Ador Dionisio stressed the need for a curriculum faithful to the Gospel while compliant with government standards, while CEAP Vice President Fr. Wilmer Joseph Tria highlighted the role of teachers and students in advancing social action in their communities. Fr. Tria also introduced the upcoming “Culture of Life and Human Dignity” Campaign.

The CASST core group leading this initiative is composed of:
– Dr. Dave Ceasar F. Dela Cruz – St. Mary’s College, Quezon City
– Dr. Ariel Bravo – University of St. La Salle
– Ms. Rosanna A. Diwa – Claret School of Quezon City
– Mr. Renz R. Gali – Miriam College Foundation
– Mr. Wilson Padillon, LPT, MA – Blessed Sacrament Catholic School
– Ms. Shiela Marie Baron – Notre Dame of Dadiangas
– Ms. Leonor Rosales – Aklan Catholic College

The project is spearheaded by CEAP’s Advocacy and Public Engagement Unit as part of its ongoing commitment to providing value-based education that promotes life, family, justice, and human dignity.
