June 15, 2025 – 390 educators from across the country, representing at least 180 CEAP member-schools and 25 non-CEAP schools, participated in CEAP Special Learning Session No. 34, “Understanding the Revised K–12 Grading System (DO 15, s. 2026) and the Strengthened Senior High School Curriculum (DO 17, s. 2026),” held via Zoom on June 15, 2026. The session featured Dr. Gina L. Montalan, CEAP National Basic Education Commission Chair and Vice President for Academic Affairs of Ateneo de Davao University, who provided an in-depth discussion of the rationale, key provisions, and implementation implications of the two landmark DepEd issuances. The session was moderated by CEAP Executive Director Mr. Narcy F. Ador Dionisio and CEAP Planning and Development Unit Officer Ms. Lalaine V. Romero.
Dr. Montalan guided participants through the major reforms introduced under the strengthened Senior High School curriculum, including the redesigned elective courses, cross-tracking opportunities, institutional and unique electives, and field experience requirements. She also unpacked the revised K–12 grading system, highlighting its implications for assessment practices, learner development, and school operations. Participants engaged actively in discussions on class programming, capacity management, assessment calibration, the ESRU cycle (elicit, use, recognize, student response), and the ethical integration of artificial intelligence in teaching and learning.
The learning session provided school leaders, administrators, academic coordinators, and teachers with valuable insights as they prepare for the implementation of these reforms in their respective institutions. Through the open forum and collaborative exchange of ideas, participants gained a clearer understanding of the opportunities and challenges presented by the new policies. CEAP hopes that its member-schools will continue to engage thoughtfully with these reforms, strengthen their instructional and assessment practices, and work together toward delivering quality, relevant, and learner-centered Catholic education. As the implementation of these reforms progresses, CEAP encourages educators and school leaders to continue sharing their questions, concerns, and implementation experiences related to the Strengthened Senior High School (SSHS) Program, the Revised K–12 Grading System, and the Three-Term School Calendar. Our team stands ready to assist and accompany schools as we work together toward a smoother, more responsive, and more effective implementation of these important educational reforms.
