Region IX Responds to the Call: Living Solidarity as Pilgrims of Hope

Zamboanga City | August 4, 2025 — The CEAP Region IX concluded its Regional Assembly last August 4, 2025, at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University Lantaka Campus, where administrators, educators, and advocates of Catholic education convened once again to reflect on the Association’s vision of providing transformative, inclusive, and quality Catholic education.

Anchored in prayer and faith, the day opened with a Eucharistic Celebration led by Fr. Elmer G. Sumile, followed by the formal ceremonies and welcome remarks by Fr. Guillrey Anthony M. “Ernald” Andal, SJ, the CEAP Region IX Trustee and the President of Ateneo de Zamboanga University. He emphasized that collaboration is a key action in being able to navigate the challenges of Catholic education today and eventually recommended actions addressing those challenges.

Setting the tone for the day, Fr. Mauricio T. Ulep, C.M.F., the School Director of Claret Quezon City, delivered a keynote address urging Catholic institutions to hold fast to their values and educational mission despite societal and institutional pressures.
A pivotal moment came during the inspirational message of Fr. Karel San Juan, SJ, the CEAP President. He emphasized the vital role of the Catholic education community—comprising over 1,500 member institutions—in collectively addressing the challenges of the learning crisis. Fr. San Juan even affirmed to the group that CEAP has representation in government consultation, advocating subsidies for both the students and teachers.

The CEAP Executive Director, Mr. Narcy Ador Dionisio, presented a candid and deeply reflective report on the current state of Catholic education in the country. Acknowledging hard realities—declining enrollment, financial strain, and the continuing exodus of teachers—he emphasized the importance of unity and shared mission in facing these challenges. Mr. Ador Dionisio laid out CEAP’s strategic priorities for 2025–2028, covering Educational Leadership and Policy Influence; Organizational Development and Governance Domain; Advocacy and Formation; Systemic Support and Capacity Building; and Community Engagement and Impact Assessment.

The Regional Assembly concluded with the election of new regional officers and a meaningful synthesis session, marking a moment of renewal and reflection for the CEAP Region IX community. CEAP extends its heartfelt gratitude to the 2025 Region IX Council and Committee Members for their willingness to lead and region in its Catholic mission of selfless service.
